The Day the Earth Stood Still Poster |
 |
A few nights ago I was watching the 1951 movie The Day the Earth Stood Still and I noticed that there was a shoe loss in the movie and a few days later I noticed that the a young woman in the movie poster is missing a shoe while being carried by the robot Gort.
I posted two pictures below. The first photo shows the young woman being carried by Gort wearing one shoe in the poster and the second photo shows a woman running in the grass losing a shoe and leaves it behind when the people are running in chaos when the space ship is landing in the beginning of the movie. I even got those circled. But it looked like the woman running on the grass was an old woman. I wish that shoe loss should have been performed by a younger woman.
After seeing the poster I have been thinking that a shoe loss was meant for actress Patricia Neal in the movie. She portrays the character Helen Benson in the movie and she was 25 years old in 1951. Patricia Neal wears black pumps in the movie and she does get carried by Gort in the movie but she did not lose a shoe in the movie. She probably could have lost a shoe while she is being carried by the robot. It may have been possible that the film makers had the idea of her losing a shoe in consideration.
