Of course, there's no guarantee they'll include the boot loss scene in the live action movie. They didn't in the Broadway Musical (Jane lost her dress there, not her boot.) It'd actually be a bit of a tough piece to do since it would be a CGI character (the baboon) interacting directly with a live action one (Jane). They've done it several times before, but it's still not the easiest thing to pull off effectively.

After going through a few more clips, it looks like all of the characters who wear school uniforms can, but the ones that don't (the swimsuit girl, the cheerleader and the one dressed in street clothes) can't (probably the game designers made it that way since they are wearing tied and laced sneakers, not slip on penny loafers.)

oh I see, the computer cut converted the last two digits into an emoji automatically. you have to replace the surprise emoji with an "8" and a lowercase "o".

I found this video of a Wizard of Oz stage performance and I am legitimately impressed that the actress playing Dorothy managed to do all of that choreography while hopping on one high heel (I know there is some hopping choreography in Pirates of Penzance as well, but that's usually only in one direction, often with all of the actresses arms linked for stability and they don't always wear heels in any case. Well, Satsuki would be no problem, she's canonically 18 (the OVA after the series is literally their high school graduation.) But, I can certainly see where you are going. Kill la Kill has a LOT of sexual themes and nudity in it (the nudity is actually integral to the plot). And I agree that a lot of the characters do look a lot younger than they are. It's why I'm not sure I mentioned the in show shoe losses Mako had, since, while she IS 17, she looks like she's 13, or even 12. Ditto Jakuzure, is 18, looks about 10.

I'm not sure if it counts under your rules. But a while back, on Danbooru, one of the artists was playing a poll "strip game" with the character Satsuki Kiryuin from the Anime Kill la Kill i.e. one where he took a poll each picture on which piece of clothing he should remove from her next. And it really bugged me that everyone went straight for her top, skirt underwear etc. rather than her boots (in fact, once she was down to ONLY her boots, the artist closed the contest). Not just because I would have enjoyed the de-booting, but because he was providing captions with each picture and anyone who had ever SEEN the anime would know that taking away Satsuki's boots would be the one thing you could do that actually WOULD put her off balance and crack her shell of impenetrability (her heel click is INTEGRAL to her character.)

This is semi interesting. While the shoe removal scene IS a part of The Pirates of Penzance, it's quite short usually to keep the pace going (in fact, in about half of productions, Fredrick comes in on his opening line BEFORE any of the actresses actually get their shoe off, to make it go even QUICKER and cut down run time.) So generally, the actresses wear either slippers or character shoes i.e. shoes that can be taken off and put on again quickly. To have a cast actually wear boots is unusual. In fact, I think the ONLY other time I have seen it done is in the movie version, where the scene is actually EXTENDED quite a bit from how long it goes in the actual operetta.)

You are most correct, sir. POV was a mistake I made when I started writting my novel and was called out early by the guys at Absolute Write, who taught me more about writing in a short time than I learned in years of school. The most popular POV is Third Person Limited, where the story is told from the perspective of an unseen "narrator" who tells the story through the eyes of a single character at a time. The POV can shift characters, but the change must be clearly delineated so as to not confuse the reader. Stories written in First Person are difficult because the whole story must be told by the character in the story that is experiencing what is happening in the story themself and only themself. They cannot go into another character's head for their perspective anymore than you can go into the head of another person in real life. The most difficult tense to write in is second person where the narrator is strictly telling the story by telling the main character what is happeneing to them. Very hard to write and almost never used. (Personally, I've never seen a story written that way). Movie scripts are based on a format called Third Person Disconnect, where the story is done from the perspective of the viewer, but the viewer can never get into a character's head to "feel" what is going on inside them like you can in a novel, and that's why so many people claim that, where you have a film made from a novel, the novel is almost always far better. In a film, POV is switched much more easily because its more obvious. When I switch POV in a chapter, I use a mark of three askerisks (***) to deliniate the switch. I try to limit thse switches because too many will harm the flow of the story and confuse the reader, but I do have a few instances where I was forced to make short switches in my story to get character reactions that make the story more entertaining. Otherwise, I try to keep my POV switches to a minumum. It's a great way to really delve into the characters of a story and give them all a deeper sence of being and purpose. Otherwise they become two dimensional caricatures. (One thing I do suck at is spelling and I thank God for Spell Check!) |
Those rules have gotten me in trouble a few times. I remember getting a terrible grade in college on a review of a movie I had to write for one class because I kept using the term "The viewer" as the perspective and the teacher thought that the average viewer would not know enough to make those kinds of interpretations or thoughts, and that I should have written the whole thing in the first person using "I" (which my High School English teacher had told me you NEVER do for an essay or review, you ALWAYS use the third person impersonal detached.)
I also get confused about how many back and forth lines in a conversation have to go on in a story before you can assume the reader will understand that every time you start another quote, you are switching speakers, and don't have to keep adding "said X" or "said Y" to the end of each one anymore (in any and all of its variations).
Oh and there IS a genre where writing in the second person is used a lot. Remember, when you were a kid, the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. THEY'RE all written in the second person.

Don't have a volume, chapter or page number, but I remember that, in the manga version of Bleach (NOT the anime one), when Uryu defeats Nemu in the first Soul Society arc, one of her sandals is missing when you see her down on the ground.

All of those episodes can be found on sites like Gogoanime, 9anime, Kissanime, etc. I don't post a lot of links because after a while, they may not work. This thread has unfortunately accumulated a lot of broken links over the years, especially YouTube videos that aren't available anymore. People looking back at older posts basically have no idea what was being linked. I'd rather describe what it is so anyone can search it and find it, as where it can be found can change as the years keep going by. |
Yeah I appreciate that. I prefer both a description with a link, but if you can only provide one, at least have a description. |
To be fair, it's not like absolutely EVERTHING is available online on some free site (most things are, but not everything) so posting a link is not always possible.
Also, so long as the person posts the show and episode (and, preferably the time stamp) finding it yourself is usually not going to be too hard. If they post the link for you, that's very nice, but DEMANDING they do seems a bit lazy to me. I'd prefer this forum not to turn into one of those places where people are OBLIGATED to keep finding or creating x number of new images and links per week in order to remain a part of the community. Those tend to turn into less of a community and more of a master/servant relationship.
