I did play the game a bit more, and you are correct the custom armor does break, just not on practice mode.
Under armor still does not break though. Which is fine by me. Only problem I have is that they attached the shoes to a lot of the socks/undergarments so you can't actually knock the shoes off in combat when they're wearing hose anymore. There are certain socks that don't have shoes attached that you can do this with, but they are thick socks/not sheer. Hopefully there will be future DLC packs that have better equipment options.

There's a very badly put together film about this story called Miracles Still Happen. I think it was produced by the same religious organization the girl's parents were working as missionaries for when the crash happened back in 1971. You can pull it up on the net. Just google Miracles Still Happen. The girl is in one shoe for about 95 percent of the film.
